GlaxoSmithKline, Vanderbilt, and FDA to Collaborate in Evaluating Drug-Induced Long QT Syndrome

First Genetic Trust has announced that the FDA, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and GlaxoSmithKline, will take part in an innovative clinical research effort using enTRUST genetic banking and research technology to study the genetic basis for drug-induced (acquired) Long QT syndrome, a well-known side effect of many different classes of drugs. Patients who have been diagnosed with drug-induced Long QT syndrome are encouraged to participate in the study. For more information and to read the entire press release click here.

Long QT Screening in Newborns

Data collected during a recent study by Dr. Peter Schwartz (University of Pavia, Italy) suggests that early EKG screening may be an effective and cost efficient tool for identifying infants with Long QT syndrome. Based partially on the results of this study, the Italian Parliament is considering legislation to offer EKG screenings to newborns.
